2011 개강총회 및 신입생환영회

안녕하세요. 컬럼비아 공대학생회입니다.

공대 학생회는 새학기를 맞이하여 올해도 어김없이 2011 개강총회 신입생 환영회를 개최합니다! 매년 학기 초에 열리는 행사는 재학생 신입생 모두가 모이는 행사이며, 공대 학생회의 특징이라 있는 학부생부터 postdoc분들까지 모두 참석하는 자리이기에 어떤 모임보다 다양한 분들을 만나 교류를 하고 정보를 공유할 있는 자리입니다. 자연대(GSAS) 학생분들도 언제든 환영합니다!

 이번 개강총회 신입생 환영회는 작년과는 달라진 모습으로 진행될 예정입니다. 특히! 이번 행사에는 컬럼비아에 계신 한인 교수님들(SEAS, GSAS)께서도 참석하실 예정이니 학생 여러분들의 많은 참여 부탁드립니다.

환영사를 해주실Prof. Jim Liew 교수님의 간략한 소개
Jim K. Liew, Ph.D. Columbia

Dr. Liew obtained his Ph.D. in Finance from Columbia Business School.
He enjoys teaching Statistical Arbitrage at Columbia, Baruch, and
Johns Hopkins, and Hedge Fund Strategies at NYU Stern School of
Business, as an Adjunct Professor. Dr. Liew has previously worked at a
large macro quant fund and an ultra-high frequency stat arb fund,
where he built, back-tested, and implemented systematic investment
strategies.

Dr. Liew has extensive business experience within the fund-of-funds
industry as well. Such experiences include: starting a successful
hedge fund-of-funds business that eventually spun out of The Carlyle
Group, managing the World Bank's pension fund direct investments into
hedge funds, and sourcing hedge funds and creating institutional
investment products at a well-known managed account platform.

Dr. Liew has published numerous papers with regards to hedge fund
investing and quantitative investment strategies. Dr. Liew currently
spends his time consulting and advising individuals/institutions on
alternative investment opportunities.

Dear all Columbia Engineering Students and GSAS Students,

I hope the summer went well for everyone! As a new semester is coming up, Columbia KESA would like to invite you to join us for 2011 annual welcoming meeting. Since this event is for both current and new students varying from undergraduate to Post Doctorate students, we believe this is a great opportunities for making connection and sharing some useful information among the Korean community. In addition, some students whom have been working or doing research in Korea for the past summers are also planning to join this meeting so I hope many of you can make it to welcome them.

This year's welcoming meeting will be different compared to that of last year's. Especially, we will have Korean professors from both SEAS and GSAS joining us for this event so I hope everyone can join us to have this awesome opportunity!!

Date: September 8th (Thursday) 7:00 PM ~

Place: Carleton Cafeteria, 4th floor of Mudd Building

Price: RSVP $20, at door $30 (Please RSVP by 6th, Wednesday midnight)

 

Part 1 (At Carleton Cafeteria)

7:00 - 7:30 Opening, introduction from Professors and Jim Liew Professor's

welcoming speech.

7:30 - 8:00 KESA Introduction and this year's calender

8:00 - 9:00 Dinner Time! (Korean food)

Part 2 ( At Village Pourhouse, Amsterdam Ave, Between 108th and 109th)

9:00 - 12:00 After Party! Honing your connection with other students (Teachers College, Social Work, SIPA, Law, etc.)

NOTE:

- Because we have some professors coming to join us for this meeting, it is important that you attend the meeting by 7:00 to honor them. You can start enter the cafeteria at 6:30.

- Also, all the revenue we get will be used for only KESA events (except Part 2).

- There is no dress code; however, properly dressed please.

- Please make RSVP as soon as possible so that we can estimate how much food we actually need to prepare for the meeting
